...Scary thought for defensive backs: Southern California’s big-play threats have improved, offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin said.

Arkansas can gauge how much they’ve upgraded when the sixth-ranked Trojans visit Saturday night because the Razorbacks covered them last year. At least they tried. Not many teams could handle Jarrett and Smith.

In USC’s 70-17 demolition of Arkansas last year, Jarrett and Smith combined to make 8 receptions for 208 yards — by the first series of the third quarter. They raked in 151 catches for 2, 231 yards and 21 touchdowns by season’s end.

“These guys are really special catchers,” USC Coach Pete Carroll said.
