Carrier Is a Smash As Ravens Assistant - Washington Post
...When the Ravens had an opening following Johnnie Lynn's departure, secondary coach Dennis Thurman thought of Carrier.

The two men have been friends for almost 20 years, dating from Carrier's days at USC, when he spent his freshman season as a backup to Thurman's brother, Junior. As Carrier started on his coaching career, he often turned to Thurman, in his fifth season with the Ravens, for advice.

"It's unusual [to move up the ranks so quickly], and it's an adjustment," said Thurman, who like Carrier starred at USC and then played in the NFL. "It's the same, but it's different because there are certain things you do differently. Cover-one is still cover-one; cover-two is still cover-two. But there are tweaks. In some ways, he's just like a rookie because he's learning the defense from scratch."...
