
Chester Caddas remembers how he managed to convince California kid Pete Carroll that going to Arkansas 29 years ago would be a really good career move.
Pete Carroll has come a long way from his season as an assistant at Arkansas in 1977.
"I told him if he didn't take the job, he wasn't as smart as I thought he was," Caddas said Friday. "Pete was my grad assistant at Pacific, making $3,000 a year, plus room and board that included an apartment."
And along came Arkansas, looking for an assistant who would get half of a full salary and the chance to work for Lou Holtz, who was returning to the college game from the NFL...
