Maybe it was, as Pete Carroll said, the perfect way to end preseason camp for USC in Saturday's final game-situation scrimmage before the opener in six days.

The scout team jumped on the first-and second teams and pretty much punched them in the chops.

"They caught us off-guard," said starting cornerback Terrell Thomas of the full-speed workout in helmets and shoulder pads. "I think that may be a good thing. One of our strengths is adjusting to something like that and coming back."...
