[Sharp] USC's success puts pressure on U-M, others - Detroit Free Press
Pete Carroll noticed the affiliation on the media credential and couldn't resist rushing to the defense of an embattled member of his coaching brethren.

"Detroit, huh?" the USC head coach said following a team practice earlier this week. "What are you guys doing to coach (Lloyd) Carr up there? All he does is win and graduate his kids and...that's not enough for you guys."

If Carroll wants to know why there's more pressure than usual on head coaches with national championship rings, he needs to venture no farther than to the nearest mirror.

The monster he's resurrected at Southern Cal has diverted more attention to the relative disappointments at traditional powers such as Michigan, Miami (Fla.) and Tennessee...
