[Sabin] USC has something to prove against Arkansas - Northwest Arkansas Times
A word problem is presented to Southern California coach Pete Carroll on Friday. The hyperkinetic Carroll first reads the question, nervously tapping his foot while sitting in his chair. How do you motivate a group of players to take an opponent seriously they beat by 53 points the year before? He ruffles his mop of gray hair and stares into space before looking down and reading the background information that is presented to him. Your team just lost 11 starters...It has also had to deal with a series of off-the field problems the last few months...All of this has happened while the national media has become infatuated with your program because of its recent success and tradition, not to mention the fact that it is the dominant team in a major city that does not have a professional football franchise. Carroll pauses and then looks up. A smile creases his face. He knows the answer. It’s easy, of course.

USC has something to prove...
