[Judge] Bush's first pro battle is with the NFL - CBS Sportsline
OK, New Orleans, here's the deal with Reggie Bush: It's not commissioner Paul Tagliabue or the NFL office that determines what number the rookie running back wears this season. It's the rest of the league.

If Bush is allowed to keep his No. 5 from USC, it will involve changing a rule that's been in effect for over three decades, and patience, people...

...Some people will tell you that this one's a slam dunk...but don't believe it. There is nothing easy about overhauling an established idea because the league will demand a complete study...

...if there's to be a change in a rule that dates back to 1973...the NFL office wants to know when it will happen ... which is where this gets sticky...
