...Although seemingly every school in the country attempts to teach those close to the athletes about the rules, few, if any, track whether their lessons are learned.

For instance, none of the nine schools surveyed for this story said they ask parents to sign paperwork affirming they understand what they can accept, or how they can act, without jeopardizing their child's eligibility.

Such a move would not clear the schools in NCAA investigations, but it might lessen any sanctions an institution could face for violations...

...At USC, that includes sending players a "Nothing's Free" letter, written and signed by Coach Pete Carroll, that warns against accepting gifts and benefits...
