USC linebacker Rey Maualuga said he reached out to his former high-school teammate, Nebraska wide receiver Maurice Purify, when he heard of Purify’s arrest for assault last off-season.“I just told him to keep his head up and accept what’s coming to him, just excel after that,” Maualuga said. “He’s been doing a very good job. I got to see him catch a ball or two (Saturday) and I was just excited.”...
...In two incidents earlier this year, Purify was found guilty of driving while intoxicated, assault, disturbing the peace and hindering arrest. A judge sentenced him to a year of probation and a $1,250 fine...
