Free Safety Fill-Ins Abound - Inland Empire Press-Enterprise
Taylor Mays didn't sound much like a freshman who is about to get the first shot at earning a starting spot for the home opener against 21st-ranked Nebraska on Sept. 16.

Mays wanted first to talk about the Trojan he could replace at free safety, Josh Pinkard...

..."I called Josh Sunday," Mays said.

Pinkard's non-contact kickoff coverage injury came when he planted his right leg and he "heard it pop," Pinkard said.

"I saw him go down," said Mays, one of the nation's most-touted high school players a year ago...

..."It's like an older brother going down," Mays said...
