...The skinny: Three-year starting right guard is known as a powerful run-blocker. Key element in opening holes for Reggie Bush and LenDale White but was criticized for his lack of consistency. Projected by ESPN as the draft's fifth-best guard, but was the 13th guard picked. Fell to the seventh round likely because of his injury history (back injury and broken leg in high school; hernia and knee injury in college). Lions checked him out and weren't concerned.
How he fits: The Lions are excited about Matua's talent, especially as such a late-round pick. Shorter than most guards but the Lions envision him at either tackle spot or possibly at center, where he has played in the past...
